3x3: On Finding Solutions, Building Consistency, and Positive Addictions

3 impactful ideas, 3 thought-provoking visuals, and 3 deep questions every week.

Hi, it’s Tom.

This week, we’re challenging everything you know about progress:
What if the easiest solution was enough?
What if consistency mattered more than effort?
And what if your addictions could become your greatest allies?

Welcome to another edition of the 3x3 Newsletter. Let’s dive in.

1. Focus on a Solution, Not THE Solution

Most problems don’t need the perfect solution. They need a workable one. The fastest way to solve a problem is to act on a simple, effective solution and not waste time overthinking. Instead of searching for the perfect solution, act on the first workable one. Try it, and adjust as you go.

There are infinite ways to solve any challenge. Some are better than others, but you do not need the best one to move forward. The easiest, quickest, or most accessible solution might be all you need to take action now. So why lose time?

Life is more often about solving problems efficiently than solving them perfectly.

Question: Where in your life are you overthinking the perfect solution when a simple one can solve your problem immediately?

2. The Key to Improvement: Consistency

Improvement does not come from huge, once-in-a-lifetime effort. It comes from showing up days in, days out, and doing the work. No matter the weather outside or how you feel inside.

Consistency builds progress, and progress accelerates results. When you commit to small, daily actions, you improve your efficiency. Meaning next time, with the same amount of effort, you’ll get twice as much done. Do this for a year and by the end of 2025, you’ll create 10x more results while putting 10x less effort. And trust me, when you get there, you won’t care how you feel anymore. The results will be so enormous that it’ll be worth the work every time.

Without consistency, progress stalls. With it, progress accelerates.

Question: What’s one thing you can commit to doing every day to build momentum in your life?

3. Be Addicted to Growth

I used to associate addictions with all the things I shouldn’t be doing. Smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, taking drugs.

But not all addictions are bad. You can actually replace the previous addictions by being addicted to growth. Becoming better every day is one of the best addictions you can build.

This kind of addiction comes from a positive desire to genuinely improve yourself. That is quite the opposite of what we usually categorize as an addiction, right? When you are addicted to growth, challenges become opportunities to improve. And it’s not just a saying anymore. It’s genuine. It’s a game, and you’re loving it. At least I am! Every day becomes a step forward, and every month is an opportunity for another giant leap.

The best part is that by developing positive addictions, you leave no room for the negative ones. I don’t have time for heavy drinking and sleeping three hours a night when I know I’ve got to run 15k the morning after. I don’t need to smoke cigarettes to stand out and look cool (remember I live in Paris, France) when I’m focused on improving my storytelling and creating captivating ideas. I don’t have a reason to smoke weed when I can relax by meditating or going to the gym.

Question: What is one way you can feed your addiction to growth today? Do it now.

One Final Thought

Progress does not require perfection. It requires action, consistency, and a mindset focused on positive addictions and growth.

Start small. Start now. And keep moving forward.
